This recording was the second in Sir Malcolm Sargent's series of G&S operas that competed with D'Oyly Carte's own recordings of about the same period. This is one of the stronger recordings Sargent made, though the 1961 D'Oyly Carte recording with full dialogue will be the preferred performance of most listeners.
