The Mackerras/Telarc Trial By Jury (1995)
Orchestra & Chorus of the Conductor: Sir Charles Mackerras |
|
This recording was issued on a two-disc set with Sir Charles's Yeomen. Overall, it is the most musically and dramatically satisfying account of the opera on disc (though I cannot say the same for the Yeomen). Donald Adams is credited with the Usher in the accompanying booklet, but Adams has one of the most distinctive voices around, and it is definitely not he. Several sources have told me that the singer is Eric Garrett. The credit is corrected on the 1999 re-issue that has all of the Mackerras recordings in one boxed set.
