The 1960 D'Oyly Pinafore
D'Oyly Carte Opera Chorus
Recorded at Walthamstow Town Hall |
|
Decca K123K-22 |
This was the third opera D'Oyly Carte recorded in stereo, but it was the first G&S opera ever to be recorded with complete dialogue. Moreover, it touts the best overall cast to be captured on record. It is arguably one of the strongest recordings the Company ever made of any opera. The Penguin Guide gave it a much-deserved Rosette.
