G&S Discography Revision History
July 8 — October 27, 1997
-
Version 11.1 — May 4, 1997 (365 pages)
-
Added a page covering the early Sullivan/Burnand collaboration
The Contrabandista. There is,
unfortunately, only one known recording of this opera, from
the Sir Arthur Sullivan Society, and I don't have a review
of it as yet. Thanks to Chris Webster for pointing out this
recording.
-
Added another issue to the Mitch
Miller Child's Introduction album. The issue is on A. A. Records,
catalog number LP 11 a/b. Thanks to Dean Wall.
-
Added contents of the
The World of G&S, Vol. 3.
Thanks to Elizabeth Pugh.
-
Added contents of the Malcolm Sargent's 1961
More Gilbert and Sullivan Overtures
disc. Thanks to Chris Webster. Chris also had some minor corrections to a
number of other overture discs.
-
Added reel-to-reel tape issues of the
1962 Ruddigore and the
1964 Yeomen.
I suspect there were other D'Oyly Carte issues
on reel-to-reel tape, but these are the only ones I know
about. Thanks to Bob Lang.
-
Version 11.0 — April 26, 1997 (364 pages)
-
-
Version 10.1 — April 12, 1997 (357 pages)
-
Reorganized the opera index page, which now lists
Gilbert & Sullivan, Sullivan without Gilbert, and Gilbert without Sullivan operas
separately.
-
Updated the issue histories of the Brent Walker videos.
Thanks to Peter Parker and Chris Webster for filling in the complex U.K. history of these videos,
which required a separate page to describe in detail.
-
Updated the video issue history, and added some additional comments on
The Cool Mikado
-
Added a number of items supplied by Chris Webster:
-
Added Gilbert and Sullivan Go Kosher, an album by the
"Goldberg and Solomon" duo.
-
Added the recording of The Rose of Persia made by the St. Alban's
Amateur Operatic Society in 1963, and issued on the Rare Recorded Editions label in the 1970s.
-
Version 10.0 — April 6, 1997 (349 pages)
-
The historical tour has been completely redesigned,
to spread the information out over more pages, and make it appear less "cramped."
-
The home page has also been redesigned, to be a bit
more compact and inviting. (At least, I hope so.) This is very much work in
progress.
-
Added the 1996 Lamplighters Music Theatre recording,
A Song To Sing, O!.
-
Added reviews of the video versions of the Gilbert
and Sullivan For All films.
-
Moved the 1963 Reader's Digest Best of Gilbert and
Sullivan set onto a single page, in place of the six separate pages on which
formerly it had resided.
-
With lots of help from Chris Webster, fixed up the
National Musicale Company recordings.
The performance previously listed as the Allegro-Royale Pirates is, in
fact, the National Musicale Pirates. The
National Musicale Pinafore has been added.
The Society re-issues of these recordings erroneously state that Martyn Green
performs on them.
-
Added the Brookledge Classics issue of
Donald Adams Sings Sullivan & Gilbert, and
moved this item to its own page. (Thanks to Seth Schneider and J. Donald Smith.)
-
Fixed up the dating of the Michael
Sammes recordings and added one more of these,
Iolanthe.
-
Fixed the dating and issue histories of the
Al Goodman recordings. Thanks
to J. Donald Smith, for pointing out that the original dating I gave (1958) was incorrect.
-
Added several CD highlights discs; thanks to Mitchell Orman.
